The tour's starting point is Piazza Sant'Antonio Nuovo, and proceed along the waterfront ( called "Rive") to Piazza Unità d'Italia, heart and symbol of the city. We travel by car to Miramare Castle distanced 8 km from Trieste. This wonderful castle is located in the middle of a botanical park of 22 hectares! It was built by Archduke Maximilian of the Habsburg House in 1860 on a promontory overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

Later we go to visit the Collio wine area, one of the most famous wine areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It feels like being in Tuscany surrounded by gentle hills. We will visit a typical winery to taste local and international wines.

During this tour you will explore the most important places, squares and buildings which still represent the symbols of the strong Habsburg domination of this territory. As a prosperous seaport in the Mediterranean region, Trieste became indeed the fourth largest city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (after Vienna, Budapest, and Prague).

The walking tour will start from Trieste cruise port, from where you'll start your walk towards the wonderful Piazza Unità d'Italia ("square of the Italian unification"), with its stunning view on the sea and its ancient palaces. You will then visit Borgo Teresiano and spot Piazza della Borsa and the theater dedicated to the worldwide famous Giuseppe Verdi.

Walk through the pictoresque Canal Grande and continue your visit to the Tergesteo until you reach the elegant Palazzo Gopcevich and Palazzo Scaramagnà.

Visit to the inn in Rodik, located on the Karst and not far from Lipica stud-farm. Here we will eat the national Slovenian gourmet  lunch. After lunch we will continue to Lipica. From the outside we will see the terrains of the oldest stud farm in Europe from 1580.

3rd country Italy ( coffee)

The end of lunch  will be in Italy, precisely in the city of coffee – Trieste, on it's Unity Square. We will  drink great coffee and then  we will slowly take it back to Portoroz.
