Tahune Adventures, Tasmania

The magical Tahune Airwalk is a 600-metre canopy walk that hangs high above the forest floor, with a final cantilevered section positioned 50 metres above the Huon River. Take in views to its confluence with the Picton River and beyond to the peaks of the World Heritage Area. A day pass includes access to all the forest walks on site, including a couple of swinging bridges. Have lunch in the on-site café, surrounded by forest. Walk above the forest canopy - share the lives of the forest giants from up-close - look down from high to the place where the wild waters of the Huon and Picton rivers mingle. The 600-metre walkway ends at a spectacular cantilevered platform, 50 metres above the riverbank - the views extend to the mountains of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Local Tasmanian food, cider and wine in the licensed cafe, there's a full day of fun for the whole family. The picturesque and thrilling trails include the Swinging Bridges and Huon Pine walks. Whether you're looking for a peaceful forest ramble or are up for a more challenging hike, one of Tahune's trails is sure to fit the bill. It all adds up to an action-packed day in the great outdoors for everyone, located only a one-hour-and-40-minute drive from Hobart.

Geeveston

Book ahead for acclaimed Japanese fare by the “surfing sushi chef” Masaaki Koyama. A loyal following at his pop-up food van in Hobart has followed him to Geeveston, where he’s opened Masaaki’s Sushi in a restored church. Think Tasmanian wasabi and wakame, inari tofu pockets with sesame seeds and toasted almonds, and southern Tasmanian seafood. Photo: realcommercial.com.au

It’s surprisingly accessible, though – walks to the likes of Arve Falls, Lake Osborne and Waratah Lookout (named for the blazing red endemic flower that dots the landscape in summer) are easy and take less than an hour return.

The Farmhouse Kitchen Tasmania

In the valley’s flagship town of Huonville, fossick for secondhand treasures and source baked goods along the main street and Wilmot Road. Or book ahead for cooking classes with Puglian leanings at the Farmhouse Kitchen. The Farmhouse Kitchen cooking school will take you on a culinary journey of the region of Puglia in southern Italy. Giuliana is proud to share truly traditional dishes handed down to her from generation to generation and also provides a cultural and historical background of Italian food and tradition. The food of Puglia is one of the best examples of the Mediterranean Diet, which is known throughout the world as being the best diet for health and longevity. Join them on the farm to learn about the key elements that make up the “Healthiest Diet on Earth”. The Farmhouse Kitchen is nestled in the hills of Wattle Grove, just above Cygnet and is a leisurely, scenic drive from Hobart through the beautiful Huon Valley in Tasmania. Wattle Grove hosts a perfect gaggle of hobby farms, berry farms and orchards. Set in a bright, home-style kitchen, the Masterclasses and Mini classes will be limited to six in number in order to keep them personal and engaging. They aim to impart the most famous (and secret) recipes in the same manner in which they have been taught in Italy for generations; by sharing stories, flavours, methods and laughter around a kitchen table.
