Mokoro Trail
Traveling by mokoro is undeniably the best way to experience the Okavango Delta as you explore the waterways and take nature walks where you have the opportunity to track game and get a closer-up feel of this unique environment. Here, bird life is spectacular, and on foot you are able to have a much more intense experience of the bush, particularly the flora and fauna that might go unnoticed. A hippo pod wakes you at sunrise, their bellowing grunts echoing across the seasonal lagoon. Kudus and springboks skip past as you sip on coffee, followed by giraffes and buffalos as you’re finishing a light breakfast.

Mokoro Full Day Trip In The Okavango Delta
Sense of Nature Safaris runs all its mokoro trips through the Okavango Kopano Mokoro Community Trust (OKMCT) who control the use of a large area of the delta and who set the guide and community fees for safari activities. This community use this part of the delta for fishing, reed cutting and the harvesting of water lily bulbs. The mokoro is an integral part of these activities. This tour commences and ends in Maun. This activity is conducted by local mokoro community guides. Your qualified guide will take you in a mokoro (the traditional aquatic mode of transport, dugout canoe) through the water channels of the delta while you relax and enjoy listening to bird calls. You will also go for a guided bush walk on an island in the delta where you may encounter wildlife at ground level. The bird-life in the delta is spectacular. A variety of game may be spotted in this pristine wilderness area, including elephant, giraffe, kudu, impala, zebra, hippo and crocodile – to name a few.

See also our T&C at our Action Safari website. Nxai Pan National Park lies on one of the Makgadikgadi Pan salt flats. Smaller pans fill up with water during the rain season, providing rich resources for wildlife. Common animals to be seen are zebras, lions, elephant, hyena, leopard, ostrich, wildebeest, spring book, impala, onyx, giraffe, cheetah, wild dog, bat, eared fox etc., with lots of birds. Nxai Pan is particularly known for Baines' Baobabs. This bunch of extremely old baobab trees is a highlight for any visitor traveling to this place of Botswana. Seven huge baobab trees, named after the 19th century explorer Thomas Baines, are situated on an island overlooking and surrounded by the white, crusty Kudiakam pan. Thomas Baines stood here in 1863 and created the paintings on these trees.
