So I had been obsessed with that "Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories" series, so much that I was fascinated to find one. Only it's a Viet version. And for Western cuisine :)))) I'll leave the food quality for your own judgement. Rest assured that those 2 young chefs/owners are even more demanding than any of us guests. What keeps me coming back? Food, for sure The "Midnight diner" ambience Chit chatting with the chefs about classic artworks while enjoying their very selection of music Putting my order at risk since the side dish, dessert, and probably the sauce n spice depends on the chefs' mood of the day Bringing my own drink FOC A little warning though, sitting at the bar could soak you in the smell of sizzling food. And, you may find yourself ordering extra something despite the full stomach while watching them cook.

Ẩm Thực Quà Ngõ Nhỏ
My favourite for local treats. Trust me, it can hardly fail anyone :) Options are quite diverse, but mostly Hanoi style (ambiance is really Hanoian, too). Strongly recommend the spicy snails, shrimp sashimi dipped in green chili sauce, and "phoenix" spring rolls. Oh, and their renowned apricot liquor is a must. "Warning": don't get petrified by the owner, he might look "so serious" with deep voice as a result of years of playing mobster in Viet drama :))

Ong ong bistro
Check out another “tiny” cute space in one of my most favourite parts of town, right on the side of St. Joseph’s Cathedral of Hanoi. It’s highly likely that you will end up at another café/bistro so make sure you get in Au Trieu street from Phu Doan end. I tried the signature Ong café (hot) and was totally in love with the rich creamy texture, so if you go for the right one (cold), the pleasure could be doubled. However, my friend’s appetite was shut down utterly by the kumquat peachy tea which tasted like iced lime tea lol Small space though. And the best spot might be that sofa by the window. I might come back after trying out all those new gourmet cafés. P.S. you might want to swing by one of the best draft beer places called Pasteur street right opposite but make sure to stay away from the Sicily bar.

Blackbird Coffee - 5 Chan Cam
One of the destinations for "serious" coffee drinkers in Hanoi. Been around for a while and able to please your coffee crave. Narrow space though, which is probably why you can't talk too loud lol and it looks suitable for those who need a place to work on their laptop. "Warning": you can easily get distracted by quite a number of other cute cafes around lol (Photo of shopfront from Blackbird Facebook page)
