Claremont Hotel Club & Spa

We're going to start by saying that the pools at the Claremont Hotel & Spa are absolutely gorgeous. Now that we've covered that, jump in! Plan a stay and swim in their 25-meter rec pool, the 25-yard lap pool, take the kids to the children's pool, or hit up the jet-stream whirlpool. We think that should be enough options for one spot. You will need to be a hotel or spa guest or a member for access.

Lake Temescal

Lake Temescal is the perfect spot for some freshwater swimming with plenty of other outdoor activities to fill your day. You can have a party at the beach house, go for a hike, do some fishing or chill out and have a picnic. This is definitely one of our favorite summer spots.

On Ice

Oakland Ice Skating Center

The Oakland Ice Skating Rink is operated by San Jose Sharks, so if you're looking to get into hockey or have your kid learn how to play hockey, this is the place to do it! If that isn't your thing you can always stop by for public skating. Check their website for various times and pricing that work for you.

I Scream, You Scream, You Know Where This is Going

Fentons Creamery

We can't say enough about the historic ice cream parlor. Fentons Creamery has been keeping Oakland cool since 1894 and the handcrafted ice cream is something dreams are made of. Try the rocky road. They are somewhat famous for it.

Curbside Creamery

Curbside Creamery is where nostalgia meets artisan gourmet scoops. Although not just scoops, you should definitely try one of their ice cream sandwiches. Vegan options are available!

Smitten Ice Cream

Nitrogen-infused ice cream, yup, an ice cream science experiment gone incredibly right. Come by Smitten Ice Cream and you'll have as much fun watching it get made, as you will woofing it down.

Eat and Drink

Kona Club

Cool island vibes await you in this authentic tiki lounge. The icy rum-flavored drinks at The Kona Club, are sure to cool you down and turn you up at the same time. Our faves? Definitely the Mai Tai since it was invented in Oakland!

Jack London Square

Of course, we're putting the entire waterfront neighborhood on this list. What better place to stay cool while eating and drinking than the whole Jack London Square!
