Top End lodge adventure 5 day self-drive itinerary

Looking for something a little different in terms of luxury? Top End lodges are an excellent way to be at one with nature while still enjoying all of the amenities of a luxury hotel.

Day 1

Leave Darwin in the morning for your journey to Wildman Wilderness Lodge. Wildman is about halfway between Darwin and Kakadu, around 170 kilometers from Darwin City. The sealed Arnhem Highway takes less than two hours to get there from Darwin. Wildman Wilderness Lodge provides a door-to-door transfer from Darwin hotels and the airport for individuals who do not desire to self-drive. The transfer leaves Darwin at 2 p.m. on request and arrives at Wildman Wilderness Lodge at 4 p.m.

Stop by Adelaide River and take a river tour with jumping crocs. Wildman Wilderness Lodge, located in the Mary River Wetlands area halfway between Darwin and Kakadu National Park, offers an amazing wetlands safari experience in the lush wilderness of Australia's stunning Top End. Wildman is a small-scale, high-quality safari lodge that offers a range of boutique and environmentally friendly lodging and tour alternatives.

Day 2

Get an early start and leave the lodge at 8 a.m. to journey to the world-famous Kakadu National Park via the Arnhem Highway. Before returning to Wildman at roughly 5 p.m., see the big highlights.

Day 3

As the sun rises and nature awakens, take a one-hour ride on Home Billabong. Prehistoric crocodiles, a great assortment of wildlife, and an abundance of wildflowers are all likely to pass you by. It's a living environment that's both beautiful and fascinating as it changes over time. Each voyage is unique and offers a different experience. Depart Wildman for a journey through Kakadu to Katherine's Cicada Lodge (around 4 hours). Cicada Lodge is the perfect base for exploring the famed Nitmiluk National Park's ancient landscapes and Aboriginal culture. The lodge is a cooperative enterprise between the Jawoyn people and Indigenous Business Australia (IBA), and it's a great place to visit if you want to see Nitmiluk Gorge and the National Park.

Day 4

Make the most of the early light with a 112-hour adventure swim helicopter tour. Fly above the Nitmiluk system's 13 gorges and land at an isolated waterhole. You and your visitors can relax in the solitude and quiet of your own private swimming hole, complete with crystal clear waters and no one to disturb the tranquility. Before embarking on the Nabilil Dreaming Sunset dinner cruise, unwind by the pool. Relax as you are transported into a mystical world of Jawoyn culture and history by the serene surroundings. Discover the Jawoyn people's stories and ways against the stunning backdrop of the Nitmiluk Gorge, which changes color as the sun sets. By candlelight and starlight, take in the breathtaking splendor of the gorge while dining on delectable Australian food.

Day 5

Depart Cicada Lodge for a three-hour trip along the Stuart Highway back to Darwin. On the way back, stop to see the waterfalls in Litchfield National Park.
