Picnic at Trị An Lake: a change of air
Need a change of air? Pack your picnic for this lake 80km from Saigon. Tri An Lake is an artificial lake created for a hydroelectric power plant 80 km from Saigon. The lake is huge, with various types of environments along its shore, ranging from forests, swamps, and sandy shore. The lake is perfect for a camping trip at the weekend, or simply a day trip with sandwiches and beer along the shore. It's best to have your lunch brought from the city and just enjoy the picnic at the site.
How to get here
The best way is to get to the lake on a motorbike. The road is easy to navigate, a scooter will be enough. however, I wouldn't oppose renting a dirt bike if you want to try to get off-road. The shore is quite sandy for a normal city scooter, riding a dirt bike on the sand will be so fun.
What to do? activities, food
Unfortunately, there are not so many restaurants or any cafe near the lake, which incidentally makes it both a fun site to discover by yourself. You may enjoy a picnic with food brought from the City, bring fishing gear, or maybe rent some dirt bike with your friends to ride along the shore. Not so many people live near the lake so the noise won't be a problem.
There are a few cafés right above the water, and they have a camping site too. Don't forget mosquitos repellent and warm clothes, the temperature can get quite low at night.
The water is actually clear and warm to swim, don't go too far though
Overall
I wouldn't say there are much to do at the lake, but it's nice to know there a nice camping site just 1 hour away from the city. I really enjoy the water. The weather will get really hot and the sun is unbearable at noon, Around 6-8 am in the morning or 4-6 pm are the best time to be outside.
