Most Beautiful Jacaranda Walks To Take in Australia

Spring in Australia will be from September to November every year. At this time, flowers begin to bloom everywhere including Jacaranda. The season runs from mid-October, and peaks in mid-November as summer really starts to roll in.

Kirribilli - North Sydney

McDougall Street
McDougall St, Kirribilli NSW 2061, Australia

McDougall Street in Kirribilli is probably Sydney's most famous jacaranda grove. It turns a magical shade of vibrant violet each spring and is a hot spot for jacaranda devotees trying to get the perfect spring photo—not unlike tourists scrambling for a sunset pic on Santorini. Just be mindful of residents and traffic!

Grafton - Northern Rivers NSW

Grafton
Grafton NSW 2460, Australia

Grafton is the jacaranda capital of NSW. If you're up for the seven-hour road trip up the east coast, Grafton hosts an annual Jacaranda festival where the whole town turns purple in celebration of the famous tree.

Oxford Street - Paddington NSW

The Eastern Suburbs is a regular go-to for any self-confessed Jacaranda fanatic. This is where you come to spend an afternoon meandering down Oxford Street, with a coffee in one hand and a camera in the other. You’ll want to head off the main drag for a little bit of extra exploring because there are jacaranda trees scattered throughout the entire suburb and that's where the real magic happens.

The University of Queensland - St Lucia

The University of Queensland
St Lucia QLD 4072

For UQ students, the pops of purple that shower St Lucia every spring can mean only one thing: SWOTVAC is right around the corner. But don’t let the daunting threat of 8am exams prevent you from exploring the campus at the prettiest time of year. A walk under the purple canopies is just what you need to clear your head, and let those lectures sink in. Of course, coffee doesn’t hurt, either. Even if you aren’t a student, don’t let that keep you off campus: the uni has its very own CityCat terminal, not to mention a busway stationed right outside UQ Lakes. We promise, it’s purple galore—just keep an eye out for stressed-out uni students getting in some last-minute cramming beneath the trees.

Jacaranda Park - Yeronga

Jacaranda Park
Yeronga QLD 4104, Australia

Yeronga’s aptly-named Jacaranda Park certainly delivers on its promise of purple plumes. The jolt of jacarandas lining the park is sure to brighten your day, so pack a picnic and bring the footy for an arvo of fun. While you’re in the area, swing by Urban Saigon to dine on drool-worthy pho recipes straight from the streets of Vietnam.

Wilson Outlook Reserve - New Farm

Wilson Outlook Reserve
231 Lower Bowen Tce, New Farm QLD 4005, Australia

Watch the world go by under the shade of a coolibah jacaranda tree at this stunning spot overlooking the Story Bridge. Wilson Outlook Reserve is packed with purple beauties and city views to boot. Better still, it’s a great alternative to the crowds of New Farm Park, without having to stray too far from the area. Make sure your phone’s charged for some stellar shots.

New Farm Park

The New Farm Park rose garden isn’t the only springtime sensation to grace the park’s grassy fields. This iconic riverfront retreat is also home to one of the city’s oldest and largest displays of jacaranda trees. Over 146 trees spring to life in October every year, drawing anthophiles far and wide. Pro tip: be sure to visit on a weekday if you’re looking to avoid the crowds.

Parliament Gardens - Victoria

Parliament Gardens

Just a short walk up the steps from Parliament station you'll discover the pristine gardens aside from Victoria's Parliament house. Adorned with the Coles Fountain sculpture, this gated off park feels like an oasis of nature amongst the busy city. The Jacarandas here in spring and summer make the space feel extra special, and are a great spot to recharge.

University Of Melbourne

University of Melbourne
Parkville VIC 3010, Australia

Each spring and summer the University of Melbourne campus bursts with the indigo and purple blend of Jacaranda flowers. The victorian-style buildings and steps are typically littered with petals—transforming the tertiary environment into a bright and floral wonderland.

Parkville

Parkville
Parkville VIC 3052, Australia

Amongst the North Melbourne region of Parkville, many a Jacaranda comes to bloom. Across both Royal Parade and Royal Park, you'll see a flurry of the purply-blue flowers—adding that special time of the year feels to the area. Whether you are commuting through or live close by, Parkville has some of the best jacaranda trees in Melbourne.

Old Jacaranda Way - Subiaco

The Jacarandas are so pretty in Subiaco that they’ve even named a street after them. Old Jacaranda Way is a tiny street off Salvado Road where you’ll find the beauties blooming in spring. But walk along any of Subiaco’s pretty streets and you’re bound to see a spot of purple along the treetops.

Marlborough Street - East Perth

Marlborough Street
Marlborough St, Perth WA 6000, Australia

It’s a small street, but boy does it turn into a purple wonderland in jacaranda season. Here’s where you’ll find Instagram gold. Once you’re done snapping away you can take a stroll over the train tracks at East Perth and down to the banks of the Swan River for another pretty vista.

Leake Street - North Perth

After brekky or Lunch at The Old Laundry, take a walk in the direction of Leake Street, where you can snap a pretty incredible pic of a jacaranda-lined street with Perth city in the background.
