Dalat is such a unique place, you can have a bed for under $2, and boundless adventures on Two Wheels
I've never considered Da Lat as a top destination for motorbike enthusiasts before. However, after gaining several years of experience, I've come to realize just how unique and convenient this destination truly is for riders. Da Lat is strategically located, connecting to all major cities and stunning scenic destinations. As long as you have your bike and a full tank of gas, the possibilities in Da Lat are endless. Whether you're craving a day at the beach, a journey through forests, visits to waterfalls, mountain resorts, or even a long ride to Hanoi, Da Lat can fulfill all your desires.
Riding from Saigon
While Da Lat may not be a bustling metropolis, it stands out as one of the prime destinations for beer, coffee, and all-around fun. The weather here is exceptional, with cool evenings, sunny mornings, making it an ideal spot for indulging in coffee culture and delicious cuisine.
The journey from Saigon is straightforward, but caution is advised when passing through Dong Nai province to avoid speeding. Once you're past Dong Nai, the ride becomes smooth sailing, allowing you to comfortably cruise at speeds up to 80km/h without much police presence.
For the ultimate experience, I highly recommend renting a dirt bike or a vehicle with a clutch. There's a reputable bike shop in District 2, Saigon, offering affordable dirt bike rentals. Alternatively, consider purchasing a budget-friendly bike and reselling it upon reaching your final destination. Websites like Facebook Marketplace or ChoTot are excellent platforms for finding bikes priced around 250 USD. It's a convenient way to embark on your journey and bid farewell to your trusty steed when you've reached Hanoi or your desired endpoint.
The Hostels are insanely cheap
After some browsing on booking websites, I stumbled upon hostels catering to bike riders for as little as 2 dollars a night, offering clean beds and hot showers in shared dorm rooms. The dormitories in Da Lat consistently impress with their cleanliness and comfort, making for a fun and enjoyable stay. I particularly appreciate the Vietnamese emphasis on cleanliness. Moreover, the food in Da Lat is surprisingly affordable, adding to the overall appeal of the destination.

Traveling from Da Lat to Nha Trang via road is an incredibly enjoyable and straightforward journey. However, it's essential to exercise caution during the rainy season when the road conditions can become hazardous. The trip typically takes only 2 hours, offering a smooth transition from the scenic landscapes of Da Lat to the sunny shores of Nha Trang. Once there, you'll be greeted with stunning beaches and a plethora of delicious seafood options, making it a perfect destination for relaxation and indulgence.

From Da Lat, if you're inclined towards mountainous terrain and prefer quieter highways with fewer tourists, I recommend taking the road to Ban Me Thuot. Along this route, you'll discover an abundance of mesmerizing waterfalls and enjoy a serene, less bustling atmosphere. Feel free to stop at your leisure along the way; personally, I have found destinations like Mang Den and Pleiku particularly captivating. Traverse along the AH17 highways for an unforgettable journey through breathtaking landscapes and tranquil surroundings.
