Alpine pacific touring route
On the Alpine Pacific Touring Route, you'll find a perfect combination of eco-adventure and pleasure. This four-day adventure takes you from Christchurch, a city known for its arts and heritage, to Kaikoura, which is home to a variety of marine creatures. The trip to Hanmer Springs, with its hot pools, massage therapies, and wonderful eateries, is highlighted by Waipara's vineyards and olive trees.
Day 1: Christchurch to Kaikoura
The drive north from Christchurch takes you via surf beaches, wineries, and farmland, culminating in the coastal ranges' breathtaking landscape. Kaikoura is an ideal location for a Maori cultural tour. Learn about the Ngai Tahu, the largest Maori tribe on the South Island, and its storytelling and spiritual traditions. Spend the afternoon learning about Kaikoura's wonderful aquatic life. Take a scenic flight to see the whales from above, or get out on the ocean and view them from the comfort of a catamaran. Swimming with dusky dolphins is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Enjoy a supper at one of the many seafood-themed eateries in the evening.
Day 2: Kaikoura to Hanmer Springs
Hanmer Springs, an alpine spa resort, has been attracting visitors since 1859 who wish to relax, unwind, and cure their aches and pains in the soothing mineral waters. At Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa, relax in the hot pools or treat yourself to a wonderful spa treatment. Take a stroll around town in the afternoon and browse the small gift shops and chic designer boutiques.
Day 3: Spend the day in Hanmer Springs
There are lots of activities to keep you busy today if you're searching for a little more excitement. The Hanmer Attractions Centre is a one-stop shop for a variety of activities centered on the Waiau River and historic Ferry Bridge. Quad biking, horseback riding, rafting, and jet boating, as well as a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails, are all available. The lovely Hanmer Forest Park is well worth a visit. The park dates back to 1901, when inmates were used to plant and assess the commercial feasibility of a variety of imported trees. It is now a diverse collection of native and exotic plants.
Day 4: Hanmer Springs to Christchurch
Begin your travel back to Christchurch early in the morning to give yourself plenty of time to appreciate the Waipara wine area. Pinot Noir and Riesling are specialties, although other varietals like as Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc are also available. When you return to Christchurch, take some time to learn about what makes this city special. The ever-changing city is overflowing with creativity, innovation, and historic charm. Explore the beautiful botanic gardens, take a punt on the Avon River, or take in the vibrant art scene. There is something for everyone with so many excellent bars, restaurants, and cafes. The Tramway restaurant, which is located in a working vintage tram, combines sightseeing and superb dining in one convenient location.
