On the Alpine Pacific Touring Route, you'll find a perfect combination of eco-adventure and pleasure. This four-day adventure takes you from Christchurch, a city known for its arts and heritage, to Kaikoura, which is home to a variety of marine creatures. The trip to Hanmer Springs, with its hot pools, massage therapies, and wonderful eateries, is highlighted by Waipara's vineyards and olive trees.

Day 1: Christchurch to Kaikoura

The drive north from Christchurch takes you via surf beaches, wineries, and farmland, culminating in the coastal ranges' breathtaking landscape. Kaikoura is an ideal location for a Maori cultural tour. Learn about the Ngai Tahu, the largest Maori tribe on the South Island, and its storytelling and spiritual traditions. Spend the afternoon learning about Kaikoura's wonderful aquatic life. Take a scenic flight to see the whales from above, or get out on the ocean and view them from the comfort of a catamaran. Swimming with dusky dolphins is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Enjoy a supper at one of the many seafood-themed eateries in the evening.
