Our road trip from Sydney to Melbourne with a Tesla Model 3

So, I just got back from an epic 4-day road trip from Sydney to Melbourne, and I can't wait to share my experience of a 4-day road trip with a Tesla Model 3. And yeah, it was a fantastic journey!

Our trip started in Sydney with an overnight drive. As someone who loves road trips and electric cars, I have to say that driving from Sydney to Melbourne in a Tesla Model 3 was an absolute pleasure. The drive time between the two cities is roughly 10 hours, but that includes rest stops and charging time along the way.

One of the benefits of driving a Tesla is the extensive Supercharger network, which provides fast and reliable charging for your car. On this trip, we made use of several Superchargers (Goulburn Supercharger, Gundagai Supercharger, Wodonga Supercharger, and Euroa Supercharger) along the way, which allowed us to charge up the car quickly and get back on the road. We spent roughly 15 mins in each supercharger.

Most of the Supercharger stations are located near restaurants, cafes, and shopping centers, making it easy to take a break, grab a bite to eat, and charge the car all at once.

We decided to stay at Holiday Inn Express because it has many EV chargers in customer parking. As an electric car owner, finding charging stations at the destination is essential, and Holiday Inn Express made it easy for us.

Day 1

On day one, we decided to explore the city of Melbourne, starting with the central business district (CBD) and the Chadstone Shopping Centre. The CBD is the heart of Melbourne, and it has many attractions, including Federation Square, the Yarra River, and the iconic Flinders Street Station. We walked around the CBD, admiring the architecture and the street art. We also visited some of the famous laneways, such as Hosier Lane, which is known for its graffiti art.

After a few hours of exploring the CBD, we headed to Chadstone Shopping Centre, which is the largest shopping mall in the southern hemisphere. It has more than 500 stores, including high-end fashion brands, and we spent a few hours browsing and shopping. We also had lunch at one of the many restaurants - Calia- in the mall.

On day two, we decided to get out of the city and visit Mt Macedon to see the autumn leaves. Mt Macedon is a beautiful mountain range, and during autumn, the trees turn into vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. We drove to the top of the mountain and took a walk through the forest, admiring the beautiful scenery. We also visited the Memorial Cross, which is a war memorial that provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

Day 3

On day three, we decided to visit Fitzroy Garden and Docklands. Fitzroy Garden is a beautiful public park with many attractions, including the Captain Cook's Cottage, the Fairy Tree, and the Conservatory. We walked around the park, admiring the beautiful flowers and trees. We also visited the Shrine of Remembrance, which is a war memorial that honors the Australian soldiers who died in World War I.

In the afternoon, we drove to Docklands, which is a waterfront precinct that has many attractions, including the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, Docklands Park, and the Marvel Stadium. We rode on the observation wheel, which provided a stunning view of the city skyline. We also walked around the waterfront and had dinner at one of the many restaurants.

After the tour, we drove back to Sydney, stopping at 4 charging stations on the way. The journey was smooth, and we had no issues with the car or the charging stations.

So, there you have it, folks! My 4-day road trip from Sydney to Melbourne was an absolute blast, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an adventure. And, if you're lucky enough to visit in autumn, make sure to check out Mt Macedon for some stunning views. Now, it's time to start planning my next road trip - who's with me?
