Ghostly Private Tour of Milwaukee

Ghostly Private Tour of Milwaukee

Devastating fires swept across the Third Ward in 1892 leading to tales that they were predicted by spiritual mediums. Some say they were caused by plots of sabotage and revenge and you'll hear stories that the fire chief heard a voice warning him about the fires before anyone else knew. The Third Ward was called the Blood Third in the mid-19th-century due to street gangs and groups of thugs, but it was also home to the city's best hotels and businesses. You'll hear about the ghost of a small boy, Timmy, who at the Institute of Beauty and Wellness has scared many students over the years.

A few buildings survived the fire including the Old Saloon and the Irish Pub, once a house of ill repute and where a lover's quarrel ended in disaster. Guests and employees have been terrified by apparitions of the Lady of the Pub in the basement and in the bathroom mirrors. You'll also be taken to Milwaukee's most haunted location, the Pfiser Hotel, where the spirit of Charles Pfiser still roams.

The North Point Lighthouse and Museum is a beautifully restored landmark and museum located between two ravines in picturesque Lake Park on Milwaukee's historic East Side. It is one of the city’s oldest structures and features a 74-foot tower and Queen Anne-style keeper's quarters. Museum exhibits and artifacts tell the history and stories about Milwaukee's lighthouses, the keepers who maintained them, and Great Lakes maritime industry.

Built in 1888, the unique octagonal lighthouse guided a bustling maritime trade on the Great Lakes for almost 100 years. When Frederick Law Olmsted, architect of New York City’s iconic Central Park, was commissioned to design Lake Park, he built the grand Lion Bridges to join the north and south sections of the park—placing the North Point Lighthouse in the middle as the park’s crown jewel.

North Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Lighthouses and the National Register of Historic Places.

Geneva Lake Shore Path: Uncover 21 miles of stories on a self-guided audio tour

The shore path has been an integral part of life on Geneva Lake for hundreds of years – and because it’s rich in history and uniquely accessible to the public, there are 21 miles of stories along it. Let me share my favorites with you on this self-guided GPS walk.

You'll find out how some of the owners of the incredible lakeshore estates made their fortunes and were able to build such magnificent homes. These titans of the beer, washing machine, chewing gum and even bicycle industries took refuge here after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, while the city was rebuilt, in the process they made Geneva Lake one of the Midwest’s favorite vacation destinations.

This tour covers the entire Geneva Lake Shore Path. You can start and end it at any point and come back to it as many times as you like. Whether you go for a long walk or a short one, there are plenty of restaurants and bars to relax at when you get back to one of the three lakeside towns.
