The sacred rock of the Acropolis was for many centuries a place of worship of Athena, the city's patron goddess. In the 5th c. BC, due to the ambitious artistic program of Pericles, the site was adorned with the monumental Propylaia, the Erechtheion, and of course the Parthenon, eternal symbol of Greek and European civilization. The individual ticket can be used on any date within the applicable visit period Apr-Oct or Nov-Mar.
