Faroe Islands

It is impossible to know what to anticipate on the Faroes for someone who has never stepped foot on its lush, sheep-poo-filled land. Everything becomes a little clearer after you arrive. The isolated and otherworldly Faroe Islands are an archipelago of eighteen wild, lush, and steeply pitched isles buffeted by North Atlantic winds, providing days of memorable adventure and intriguing insight into Denmark's old colonial regions.

The islands are distinguished by some of Denmark's most spectacular scenery and an abundance of sheep – which, incidentally, outnumber people and have fueled the commerce in Faroese woollen items since they were worn by the actors of the renowned Danish TV series The Killing. The currency is the krone, and both Danish and English are widely spoken.
