Visit Fromelles and Ypres, and delve into Europe’s World War I history on this fully guided day tour from Arras. We follow the path of the War through 1917, Messines Ridge and Hill 60, Polygon Wood, Passchendaele and the Tyne Cot Cemetery. Explore Ypres at your leisure, then take part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate before your onward travel to Lille or return to Arras. This is a long and emotional day and can be taken alone or added with another of our day tours. There is an opportunity to follow in a relatives footsteps or lay a wreath at the Menin Gate Ceremony in the evening.

We stop at a very moving German Cemetery, from where we drive to a section of the WW1 trenches. We will then visit the Monument of the Brooding Soldier.

After a short lunchbreak we leave for Flanders Fields which was one of the major battlegrounds in the First World War. Our expert guide will help you throughout the visit to understand the events that led to the first world war and how the catastrophe developed. We take you to Passchendaele battlefield and the Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth cemetery in the world where British, Australian and Canadian soldiers lie at rest. You visit the Monument of the ‘Brooding Soldier’ and Essex Farm.

At 8 pm you attend the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate (under restoration works until mid-2025), a daily tribute to all Commonwealth soldiers and officers that were missing after battle.

The first day you will stand in Fromelles, visit the museum and the Pheasant Wood cemetery, go to VC Corner Cemetery and the Australian Memorial Park. You will see one of the mine craters of Messines, Hill 60, Polygoon Wood and Tyne Cot Cy. in Passendale. That night you will attend the Last Post at the Menin Gate in Ypres.

The second day will put the focus on the Somme, Villers Bretonneux, the Memorial, Le Hamel where General Monash will use new tactics and Pozières and its Windmill and Moo Cow Farm.

Spend a day discovering the fascinating history of the Ypres Salient, a battlefield in the Belgium Flanders region that saw many battles during World War 1. Visit several memorials and cemeteries including the St Julien Memorial and the Tyne Cot Cemetery, where you can pay your respects to the thousands of soldiers who defended this corner of Belgium from the German Army. Walk up to the famous battlefield of Hill 60; see the Menin Gate Memorial; and enjoy free time to explore the town of Ypres at your leisure.
