Albino Eye Glacier Trekking

The adventure has a total distance of 19 km where we cross the Tierra Mayor valley (one of the largest wetlands), we cross the fantastic nothofagus forest, we visit the Esmeralda lagoon and also some beavers.

Depending on the season of the year we will find different scenarios.
During the summer we will be able to see incredible icebergs floating on the glacier, a product of the great retreat that it presents. During the winter we have the possibility of approaching the magnificent ice walls of the glacier front thanks to its frozen lagoon, an epic experience.

Undoubtedly, this trek is one of the most complete that you can do in Ushuaia. Adventure, the passage of glaciers in time and fantastic views are something that this proposal offers for those who have sufficient physical condition and are always looking for a challenge!

The most complete option to enjoy the Tierra del Fuego snow!! Leaving from the hotel towards the Tierra Mayor valley, the adventure begins. Following our guide's instructions, we put on our snowshoes and began a walk around, visiting panoramic points and contemplating the majesty of the landscape... at the end of the walk we got on the vehicle specially equipped with tracks and began to cross the great plain nevada, where we will have time to take pictures in a dreamlike landscape.
The ride brings us back to Nunatak, where we'll have lunch in the Heated Dome and have time to have some fun on the toboggan rides. After lunch we have the experience of riding a sleigh pulled by huskies and driving a snowmobile on a guided adventure!

A tour that will transport you back in time. You will cross the valley shaped by the glaciations today covered by peat. You will go through forests with the purest air and you will see the native flora and fauna of Tierra del Fuego; a large number of birds fly over the area. You will have the experience of living all this in a walk that ends in an emerald-colored lagoon that will make your spirit shine.

This is a totally different activity in Ushuaia, since we are the only company that has a mountain refuge on the banks of the Emerald Lagoon, with a salamander, which allows you to spend a pleasant moment in nature enjoying comfort and enjoying lunch gourmet. Our guides are specifically selected for these activities, so that they can follow the rhythm of the passengers and thus make this an enjoyable activity.

The trek will combine dream landscapes with excitement and lots of fun. It is an innovative trekking excursion, since we add information on flora and fauna, as well as you will be able to know the peat and its components, among so many moments of the route.

For safety reasons, mountain clothing is necessary for this activity. In case you do not have the appropriate clothing you will have the option to rent.

We get to the starting point by following national route 3 for about 17 kilometers; we begin the hike at the trail’s parking lot, which quickly takes us deep into the forest.

The trail takes us close to a beaver dam and crosses the valley until finding a peat bog, where it will follow the Esmeralda river all the way to its source in the Esmeralda lagoon. After a final climb, we will get to the lagoon: frozen in the winter and dazzling us with its stunning color during the summer.

If the weather is good enough, we will have lunch by the lagoon with a breathtaking view of the Albino glacier, the lagoon, and the surroundings.
Afterward, we will take the same trail back to the transfer that will take you to your hotel.

We pick you up at your hotel and take you to the starting point of the trail.

We begin our activity and after 2 hours of trekking we will arrive at the Esmeralda Lagoon. We will continue along the right bank to begin to ascend to the Ojo del Albino glacier.

An hour later, we will be traveling through high mountain terrain where a lot of concentration is required.

At 7 km, we will stop to enjoy a delicious lunch in the mountains and a short rest.

We will continue to the Balcones del Ojo del Albino where we will have an incredible view of the Esmeralda lagoon and its entire high valley.

After 10 km of travel and reaching a height of 1200m, we will climb a wall to reach the impressive Ojo del Albino Glacier.
When the physical conditions of the passenger and the meteorological conditions of the place are optimal, we will ascend and walk on the ice.

Around 3:00 p.m. we will start the return along the same path.

A flight over the city of Ushuaia, to get a wonderful view of Mount Olivia. From there, your flight continues to Mount Five Brothers, the turbans of the Carbajal Valley, Valle de Tierra Mayor, the Emerald Lagoon and then finish at the Ushuaia Bay.

We will leave Ushuaia via Ruta 3. After listening to the guide's instructions on our 4.7 km walk, we will enter a forest of Lengas, walking on spongy soil, known as turbas. We will follow the banks of uniquely colored streams. Soon we will come across the beavers, dams built by beavers.
Our guide will pause to tell us this history and characteristics of the region's flora and fauna.
After a 2-hour walk with stops, we will arrive at the famous Laguna Esmeralda, which is fed by the imposing Ojo del Albino glacier, one of the most beautiful postcards of Argentine Patagonia
We will take a snack break while listening to interesting facts about this region, and then our walk back.

You will depart from the hotel in a minibus by land (20 km) to the Tierra Mayor valley. From the Nunatak refuge You will begin the walk during which you will cross peat bogs, streams and centuries-old forests of Lengas and Coihues.
The possibility of spotting foxes, condors and beavers is always latent.

The Esmeralda Lagoon is located in the heart of the Tierra del Fuego Natural and Landscape Reserve, the color of its waters and its geographical location in the middle of the Fuegian mountain range invite you to stop and rest on its shores while enjoying lunch.

Finally, you will return to the refuge by a different path than the one you came in and return to the hotel.

This excursion includes the trekking Laguna Esmeralda, adding the ascent along the main tributary of the lagoon, which has its source in the Ojo del Albino Glacier.

The glacier will surprise you with a spectacle of ice and mountains. You will arrive at the viewpoint of the valley where you can enjoy lunch with wonderful views from 900 meters above sea level.

The journey will continue, with stops at panoramic points of impressive beauty. Finally you will return to the Nunatak refuge and from there to the hotel.

In this trail of about 10 km (round trip) we will have the chance to experience some of the different environments that Tierra del Fuego Island offers us. We will cross the Fuegian Native Forest, we will get to know the important peat bogs and their beautiful reddish tones and we will walk through the imposing Fuegian Andes.

We will also see the beaver dams and learn about the history of this animal introduced to the island and the impact on the native ecosystem. We will come across a variety of birds representative of the environments we will pass through.

Finally, after a pleasant walk we will arrive at the Laguna Esmeralda where we will be impressed by its bluish green colour due to its glacial origin. Here we will take a break, have time to take pictures, walk along the shores of the Laguna Esmeralda

We will pick you up at your accommodation to begin our trip to the National Route, where we will begin our journey to the starting point. There we will prepare to undertake a 4.5 km walk towards the lagoon. For approximately 2 hours, we will pass through lush forests, peat valleys, crystal clear rivers and majestic mountains.
Following the course of the Esmeralda River, we will approach our destination. The lagoon receives its name from the unique color it acquires thanks to the sediments of the Ojo del Albino Glacier, this being the best time of year to appreciate it in all its splendor. While we enjoy this impressive landscape, we will recharge our batteries with a delicious box lunch before heading back along the same path, allowing us to once again appreciate the beauty of the environment and discover new angles to capture photographs.

Embark on an accessible hike in the southernmost city globally, aiming to reach the stunning Emerald Lagoon. Commencing our journey north from the hotel, a brief 20-minute drive from the city, our guide provides insights into traversing the Lasifashaj Valley. The well-defined path varies with the season, guiding us through peat bogs and rocky landscapes.

Continuing through additional forest, we walk alongside the Esmeralda River until we reach the captivating Laguna Esmeralda—a glacial lake renowned for its unique color, influenced by sediment from the Ojo del Albino Glacier. Departure from the hotel towards the Tierra Mayor Valley, in this great snow-covered valley we begin the journey in sleds pulled by Huskies, after crossing the valley we enter the forest by an old lumberjack path, in the middle of this hundred-year-old Lenga forest we arrive at the refuge del Hachero (small log cabin heated by firewood). We say goodbye to the Huskies and our guide helps us put on our snowshoes (without which we would not be able to walk due to the thickness of the snow that normally reaches a meter), the objective: The Alvear Icefall and the Valle viewpoint, the Returning to the refuge is faster and more fun since it is downhill and culminates in the Hachero refuge. In the refuge we recover energy with a hot chocolate. From the logger's refuge we return to the Tierra Mayor valley walking with snowshoes.

From the hotel we will go by comfortable transport to the beginning of the trail. From there we will take the path that enters the forest within the Lasifashaj Valley. We will cross several turbales and rocky terrain. We will continue our walk along the Esmeralda River until we reach the indescribable Laguna Esmeralda, a small lake of glacial origin, which owes its name to the color that the sediments that come from the Ojo del Albino Glacier give it. This color can only be seen in summer since in winter it will be frozen and covered with snow.
While we enjoy the view of the Lagoon we will load energies eating a box lunch. We will be able to undertake the return, where the road will be familiar to us and we will have the last chance to appreciate the beauties that surround us.
