On this tour we leave Funchal in the direction of Poiso with an altitude of 1412m and then climb through the mountains to Pico do Arieiro at a height of 1818m.

The Monte Toboggans Sledges first originated in the early 19th century when they were used as first means of "downhill" public transportation by the local residents who wanted to travel quickly from the village of Monte to the city of Funchal. We start at Pico dos Barcelos, a viewpoint overlooking the bay of Funchal and mountains. We continue to climb until Eira do Serrado which is at a height of 1053 meters. This viewpoint offers an overview of the parish of Curral das Freiras. Access to the viewpoint is via a footpath that leaves from Estalagem Eira do Serrado. We went down to Curral das Freiras, a cozy village surrounded by mountains. Finally we go to the parish of Monte, known for its gardens and the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte.
